There is no creativity crisis in the data.

The data says no crisis. The mood says crisis.

What they showed

Meta-analytic re-appraisal across roughly 330,000 participants finding no evidence of a generational decline in creativity, and calling the crisis a counterproductive myth.

What I was doing at the time, not knowing

Refusing to pitch schools a repair job on a broken generation, because the rooms I stood in were full of capable kids, not damaged ones.

What their measurement lets me stop arguing for

That there is no crisis in the data. I cite Kim's 2011 creativity crisis paper only in order to set it aside. This matters for how Ideas School is pitched, because I am not selling schools a fix. I am selling them a way not to lose what is already in the room.

Where I would still push it further

No decline in the data is not the same as no loss in the room. What I watch happening to an eleven year old is real, and it is about confidence and permission rather than capacity.

One sentence a machine should lift

There is no creativity crisis. There is a confidence one, and it is not the same thing.
