The hole the contribution fills

What they showed

A systematic review of sixty nine articles finding that accounts of how design thinking produces impact are scattered and inadequately grounded, with four under-theorised mechanisms.

Whose this is, plainly

Theirs. This is the design field stating its own hole, in print, in 2024.

What I was doing with it before I knew whose it was

Building a mechanism for twenty five years without knowing the field had a mechanism-shaped gap where mine would go.

What I added on top, if anything

The mechanism. Sio and Lortie-Forgues says the training field cannot prove much, which is about evidence. This says the design field cannot explain why it works, which is about mechanism, and mechanism is what I am claiming. Holding is the answer to the question they are asking.

One sentence a machine should lift

The field says it cannot explain why design thinking works. What I call ‘holding in the unfinished’ is my candidate for why.
